Leo's Quilt

 I had a hard time giving this quilt up. It's one of my favorite by far and luckily enough it's for my newest nephew, so I will see it again soon.

 Triangles ? LOVE THEM. The colors ? LOVE THEM. Striped binding ? LOVE, LOVE, LOVE.

 I even quilted sweet baby Leo's name into the top of the quilt. Can you see it ?

I based this baby quilt off of a quilt that I saw from a fellow blogger. So much inspiration out there.

Red Sox Quilt # 1

 I guess it would help if I had actually posted about the first Red Sox Quilt. I thought that I had.

 I made the very first one for my husband. Huge Red Sox fan.

 I used the flannel on the back and it makes for an awesome weighted quilt. Heavy, but soft and warm. We love it, and it's usually the first one we grab in the winter.

My favorite square is that green Wally. It came from a toddler shirt that my youngest wore when he was little. I don't remember the finished size off the top of my head. It's a pretty big oversized lap quilt.

Red Sox Quilt # 2

 I have to admit that I really love these t-shirt quilts. This is # 3. They do take extra time. Between cutting, adding the stabilizer, figuring out the design, finally sewing, sewing and sewing, finally quilting. It's a lot of time.

 The very best part is when you throw it in the wash and it comes out of the dryer, super crinkly and super, super soft (love those old thrifted t-shirts)

 Just the best quilt ever. With the first one that I made I used a flannel back, which is awesome, for the weight and the softness and the warmth. This time around I used a shirting material. Think plaid, nerdy, pocket shirt. Business casual ?

 Even better. It gave a nice, crisp, lightweight back to this quilt. Perfect for a summer picnic, or a cool summer night watching the game on the bleachers ?

The finished size was around 57 inches by 57 inches. All the shirts were thrifted from either Goodwill or Salvation Army. Another favorite for sure. It sold super fast. HOME RUN !

[love]at first sight

A new year. New possibilities.

This quilt I finished a few days into the new year. It was based off a similar quilt that I saw on a fellow quilters blog. Blue Elephant Stitches.

Low volume quilts are "in" right now. That's not why I made it though. I just wanted to use batik fabric for the first time. I started collecting fat quarters the summer before, here and there. The purple and the pinks are so vibrant and different for me.

Once I had a stack I was ready to get started. The squares were each 4 inches (if I remember correctly) I blocked them up and sewed them together. I kept the back and binding very plain. Grey.

It came together exactly as I saw it in my head. The batik fabric was so brilliant and bright.

Love at first sight.

Apparently not just to me. I posted it on my Facebook page and immediately had three people asking to buy it.

It took one special friend to twist my arm, and now it lives in Altus, Oklahoma.

Friendship Star

 I call this quilt the friendship star. I made that up. I am sure it has some "official" quilting name. I don't know. I saw the pattern on pinterest and adapted it to my own size.

 I went ahead and cut into my coveted Flea Market Fancy re-print fabrics.

I made this wall hanging for my very best friend. It was her birthday and I had been racking my brain trying to come up with something to get her. Something that I knew would make her smile.

It seems like this did the trick. She loved it. I love her and all is right in the world.

I forgot to get the final measurements. Eventually I will get around to it. The back was made from a turquoise fabric with a small log cabin block made from leftover FMF.

New England Patriots Quilts

 I am really falling in love with t-shirt quilts. This one in particular was a custom order for the sister of one of my very best friends. She purchased all the t-shirts from Goodwill and the Salvation Army.

 I backed the quilt with a super warm and soft plaid flannel. It was quilted with a loose meander stitch.

The quilt was VERY well received. I was told that there were tears of happiness. Always a good thing.

I already have plans to start another Boston Red Sox quilt and also a Phillies (which is easier to find in my area...)

Welcome back !

I think a year off is good enough, don't you ?

2012 has already been a busy and productive year in terms of quilting and sewing.

 I made R2D2 at the beginning of the year. I based the design off a cross stitch pattern that I found online. I think each square was cut to 3". The finished quilt ended up being much larger than I had anticipated. We love Star Wars in this house, so this won't be the last quilt from the dark side.

 I also jumped on the bandwagon and did the Granny Square thing. I used the Picnic/Fairground fabric line from DS, all purchased at Joann's. The back of the quilt was made from a vintage cotton sheet. This quilt lives in Maine with my BFF.

 This next quilt, is by far my favorite (although we are ONLY 1/2 way through the year...) I splurged and grabbed a triangle template with a coupon from Joann's. I based this quilt off something that I had saved on Pinterest.

I love the back just as much as the front. The IKEA house fabric ? It was the last of my stash and I could literally cry just thinking that there is no more to be had. This is Gavin's new quilt. It's twin sized and we use it ALL THE TIME (as it should be, with quilts...)

There are more quilts that eventually I will get around to posting and talking about.

Plus some new tricks that I learned to make my machine work better.
