flea market find

We ventured out to the flea market today and I found this fab-u-lous cabinet.

We brought it home cleaned it up and it is now home to my fabrics and sewing materials.

I am a happy, happy girl.

brown, pink and polka dots !

Haven't been able to sneak some time for sewing lately. I have a bunch of stuff on my "to do list" three quilts that I need to send off to be quilted and one work in progress that I am not sure what I want to do with yet.

Plus I have about a dozen ideas bouncing around inside my head. All that stuff makes me not want to sew.

Go figure.

Anyway. I wanted to share one of my more embarrassing quilts.

This one I made last summer. I was in love with the colors, pink, brown and the polka dots ! Stupid me thought triangles would be a piece of cake. Everything was going good but then I messed up the pattern (can you find it ?) I didn't even notice it until the blanket was  done !

This one resides hidden in the closet.

It was a learning experience.

So I went into Joann's looking for something in particular, and I came out with something completely different.

The flower fabric and the pink polka dot corduroy fabric. The rest of it I already had.

Last night I played around with the pattern. I wanted something cute and sweet and I didn't want to use white like I normally do.

After about three hours this is what I came up with. You like ?

It's not very big. I didn't measure it yet, but I know it is smaller than a crib quilt.

I haven't quite decided if I am done yet though. I might add a few more strips to the bottom. Or top, since it doesn't really matter which way you look at this quilt.

There was a coordinating flower fabric that I think I will use for the back. Any suggestions for the binding ?

Finally ! 

Something I can wear and something that can use up my growing stash of fabric scraps !

All you need is fabric (the funkier the better !) some elastic, cutting mat, rotary cutter, iron, sewing machine and a head.

I am not posting the directions simply because I found them on Old Red Barn Co's blog. She does a way better job of showing you how then I EVER would.

This is what the finished product looks like.

And here I am ! Wearing the funky headband I just made.

Wow ! Wasn't that easy ?

Farmer's Market

Look at what the mail-person just dropped off.

My fingers are itching to start sewing.

That's what I did when I picked up these fabrics.

Except the brown/blue/floral one ? That one doesn't belong. It was a skirt I found at Goodwill and I knew, I just knew the fabric would come in handy.

You know this stuff doesn't last long in my house. It was cut and assembled in less than a week.

This one is headed off to the quilter again. It's a small one, only about 41x50 if I remember right.

The back will be plain white and I am not sure what I want to use for the binding yet.

How I love thee fabric covered button !

Aren't they delicious ? I want to just pop one in my mouth they are so sweet.

Don't ask what possessed me to make them. Talk about super easy. The hardest part was figuring out how to secure them on the itty-bitty hair clip. Still trying to figure that out, any suggestions ?

Right now the metal piece underneath the button (no idea what the correct technical term is) is attached to the hair clip, it's loose though so I think I am going to dab a smudge of either super glue or hot glue.

I might need some little girl testers. See how they hold up over time.
