'lil Patriots & 'lil Steelers

In honor of the 2017 AFC Championship game between the New England Patriots and the Pittsburgh Steelers. I made a 'lil Steelers quilt.

I had this t-shirt left-over from another project and once I knew the teams would be playing each other, what better use than a team quilt.

You know I love stripes. So I did them yet again. Light grey and white. All over-stippled quilt patten and finished with a black and white striped binding, and of course NFL licensed fabric for the back.

So what's YOUR predication? Who do you think will win and go on to play in this years Super Bowl?

Of course I am a New England girl, so I am screaming all the way for my Patriots !

[only 7]

2016 was not the best year in terms of quilting.

I only made 7 quilts.

2 were custom orders :

One was made for my easy shop.

Two were made for my own family.

One was a donation, for a local child receiving cancer treatment.

...and one was a gift that never made it. It was mailed but probably stolen from the USPS.

I don't have any great quilting plans for 2017. I would like to make another New England Patriots quilt, maybe a postage stamp quilt. A few more to round out my non-functioning easy shop, and I would really, really like to get a pile going to donate to the Children's hospital, as I have done in years past.

Last quilt of 2015

After I posted the other day about my first quilt this year, I realized that I never posted the last quilt I made for 2015.

It was a gift for my faux-mom. (I like that term better than step-mom)

She and my Father spend a great deal of time outdoors and near the water. Canoeing, kayaking, etc. I wanted this quilt to invoke the feeling of water and reflection.

I kept it simple with half square triangles in blue, grey, white and green. The quilting was all organic straight line with a little bit of "wave" to signify water.

I don't remember the exact size, but it was big enough to be used as a lap quilt.

I completed the first quilt for 2016. A custom order. The front of the quilt is based off of the "Postcards from Sweden" pattern by Robert Kauffman.

I didn't follow the pattern per se. More like I dug through my solids and grabbed what I thought the color should look like. You may see some variations.
I had this pattern on my radar for awhile.
The color is so happy and bright. I am really tempted to make one for myself.

The back of the quilt features t-shirts, a fun collection from a tween girl, who I hope loves the quilt. The fabric used from the back was sent in with the t-shirts.

The finished size is 54 inches by 67 inches.
Great start to the new year !

New York Yankees T-shirt quilt

I know. I know. (Insert eye roll) Another t-shirt quilt. In my defense this one was a gift for a very good friend, who (obviously) is a NY Yankees baseball fan.

All but two of the shirts were thrifted. The shirt in the middle is around 20 years old and was "donated" to the cause.
I kept the design simple with bold stripes on the front and then smaller stripes on the back with the second "donated" t-shirt. Finished with official licensed NY Yankees fabric, and grey and white striped binding.

The finished size was roughly 60 inches by 72 inches.

Lil' Eagles NFL quilt

Well, okay. I made another one. They're a little bit addicting to make, if I am being honest.

Since I am stuck in Delaware right now, obviously there is an abundance of Eagles team gear.

There is something that I really like about the grey/white/green color. The back has a simple team logo fabric. I made the stripes a little wider on this quilt, which adds a little more length to the overall size.
It's baby/toddler sized. Perfect for the littlest fan. Or maybe even a wall hanging for the man cave ?

Lil' Patriots quilt

I think I mentioned before about how much I love making t-shirt quilts, but grumble a little bit about all the work and time that goes into making them.

I figured out a way to have the best of both worlds. I can whittle down my up-cycled t-shirt stash and still make the quilts, but not tear my hair out over all the time and materials spent.
For your viewing pleasure. The lil' Patriots quilt. It's no secret that my family loooooooove the New England Patriots. Hello ? Gronkowski ! Brady !
I also love stripes, which if you check out my etsy shop is quite obvious. So, stripes and the Patriots. Perfect combo.
I used a wicked soft blue and grey plaid flannel for the back, grey binding finished it all off. The final size ended up being 41 inches by 51 inches. My "babies" are all grown up, otherwise this one would be staying here with me.
